A LinkedIn post I shared last week struck a nerve
.
The overwhelming response revealed a hidden truth: countless professionals feel trapped by their credentials, paralyzed between the path they "should
" take and the one they dream of pursuing.
I intimately understand this struggle.
After investing six years in my pharmacy doctorate and residency, followed by five years of clinical practice, something felt misaligned. The weight of student loans and years of specialized training made even contemplating a different direction feel like betrayal. First-child syndrome amplified the guilt—surely changing paths meant disappointing everyone who'd supported my journey.
But I was wrong
.
Your degree is a door, not a destination.
We've internalized the belief that our credentials determine our worth and dictate our future. But here's what I've learned: your degree isn't a life sentence—it's a launching pad.
We are dynamic, evolving humans—not static job titles.
The skills, knowledge, and experiences you’ve gained don’t disappear if you choose a different path. They expand
your possibilities. Your career should fit your life, not the other way around.
As Brené Brown writes in The Gifts of Imperfection:
"May we find the courage to let go of who we think we are supposed to be so that we can fully embrace our authentic selves..."
So let’s release the pressure, redefine success on our terms, and step boldly into what truly fulfills us.
As a clinical pharmacist who pivoted to digital marketing and working with health entrepreneurs, I understand the courage it takes to reimagine your career.
If you're standing at the crossroads of what you "should" do and what sets your soul on fire, you're in the right place.
Until next time,
